And thus cameth the holiday

Finally. After a total six weeks of toiling, of studying so hard the life was sucked out of me, I have prevailed. I have vanquished the devil. I have finished my exams.

In Belgium, university teachers still haven’t understood that what we call the “blocus” (i.e. studying for a fortnight without courses) is bad for students, because they force themselves to memorise things they’ll forget after the exams are over.
Sure, some of the learnt notions will stay, but only a few compared to the massive amount of stuff you’re supposed to know off by heart.

In Law, at least, we are allowed to bring are “codes” (law compilations), and this makes the whole process much easier, because many answers to the questions are in the legislation.
My sister, on the other hand, studies bio-engineering, and had to know dozens of sheets of vocabulary on top of memorising every single course she had to follow.

No wonder the failure rates are high in Belgian universities for most exams.

Until the universities learn something, we poor unfortunate souls shall have to die every six months (January & June exams, and August if you fail some exams).

But let’s look on the bright side: for the first time in years, I have the impression I might get away with not failing a single exam. That would mean no August exams!
Instead of studying, I could devote my month of August to visiting a couple of friends, writing my Arpia novels, writing more music, doing some interesting stuff, watching mindless movies, sipping slurpy drinks, sleeping until my body is fully rested, and spending my time in an enjoyable fashion.
I tell you, this would be paradise. A real holiday for once.

Well, we’ll know for sure on the 27th of June.

Not looking forward to that date, for some reason.
